In a shocking incident in Gonda district, a 13-year-old boy was dragged into the Ghaghara River by a crocodile while he was bathing buffaloes. This event has sent shockwaves throughout the local community.
The mishap occurred on Sunday evening in the village of Sonouli Mohammadpur, located in the Umri Begamganj police jurisdiction.
According to police officer Narendra Pratap Rai, the victim, Raja Babu, also known as Nan Yadav, was tending to the buffaloes near the river when a crocodile suddenly emerged from the water, seized him in its jaws, and pulled him into the river.
Upon receiving the report, teams from the police and the forest department rushed to the scene. They conducted a search operation for nearly five hours but were unable to find any trace of the boy.
The search efforts resumed on Monday morning. Eyewitnesses recounted that the crocodile first grabbed the boy's leg before releasing him and then clamped down on his neck, dragging him underwater. The entire incident unfolded so quickly that the boy had no time to react.
Despite the villagers' attempts to raise an alarm and assist, no one dared to enter the water. A video has surfaced showing the crocodile taking the boy underwater. In the footage, the boy's head briefly surfaces before the crocodile pulls him down, and both disappear from view.
This area is situated along the banks of the Ghaghara River, and locals have noted that as the water levels rise, crocodile sightings near the village increase. Residents report that crocodiles are frequently seen in this region, and this incident marks the second such occurrence in the past month, creating a climate of fear among the villagers.
